Chenille Stem Bird Craft Project
Chenille Stem Bird

It was a rainy
December day but we still managed to make to it the Michaels
store so that the kids could create a chenille stem Bird.
You are probably
asking what a chenille stem bird is. This is a craft project for
children. It uses several different craft materials glued
together in the shape of a bird.

The picture on the left shows a completed Chenille stem bird made at Michael’s Crafts event for children in the month of December. The project is not difficult and can easily be completed by all young children.
If a child can use glue, they can make this bird.
The first thing you need to do is collect all the materials and supplies that you will need to complete the bird. A supply list is displayed below:
- 2 ½ inch foam circle
- 1 ½ inch foam circle
- 4 each Feather, Your choice of colors
- 2 each 7mm wiggly eyes
- 4 inch chenille stem
- 12 inch chenille stem
- Heart Stickers
- Glue
With all these supplies, sitting in front of us it was next time to make them into something wonderful. Our first task was to arrange feathers around the body and secure them with small heart stickers. Next, we want to twist a short chenille stem and then push one end of it through a small circle to form a bird’s beak. Secure the other end to the body using a large heart sticker.
Fold a long chenille stem in half and then secure it at the fold to the body with large heart sticker.

Now bend ½ inch of the chenille on each end of the leg and sandwich between two large heart stickers. These heart stickers are the feet of your bird.
Secure a feather of your choice to the head and secure it with a heart sticker. Glue a pair of wiggly eyes in place at this time. Bend the legs up to perch your chenille stem bird atop a computer monitor or shelf.
